FOSTERS & ADOPTERS NEEDED
The Humane Society of Harlingen was honored to receive this special message from Governor Greg Abbott, and the first dog of Texas, Pancake. In October 2021, thanks to years of advocacy by Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed the Safe Outdoor Dogs Act into law. The bill, championed by Senator Lucio, represents a new era for companion animals throughout the Great State of Texas.
Thanks to Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., and Governor Greg Abbott, Texas is making incredible progress in animal welfare, and in the Rio Grande Valley, the Humane Society of Harlingen is leading the way. In the last two years, our work has saved the lives of over 10,000 homeless pets and has served over 15,000 additional pets through our low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination services.
The Humane Society of Harlingen is the Rio Grande Valley’s ONLY no-kill animal shelter, and it is our mission to make the entire region a safer place for pets. We hope you will join our mission as an adopter, foster, volunteer, or donor today.
Thank you Senator Eddie Lucio Jr., and thank you Governor Greg Abbot for breaking the chains, and helping to make the Great State of Texas a safer place for pets.
Humane Society of Harlingen (HSH) is a non-profit 501(c)3 animal shelter and adoption center serving the City of Harlingen and the greater Harlingen area. We provide homeless animals with shelter and care while working to find them new homes. HSH serves more than 6,000 animals each year, brought in by municipal animal control officers and surrendered by local residents. All pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered (or scheduled for spay/neuter) prior to adoption.
"Humane Society of Harlingen will provide shelter and care for homeless cats and dogs for the purpose of finding them suitable and permanent new homes while promoting the importance of spay/neuter and thoughtful, healthy relationships between people and their pets."
HSH provides intake services in cases of owner surrender of a pet or a stray/found animal.
Stray or impounded
pets collected by animal control are brought to our facility in Harlingen.
HSH operates a monthly low-cost vaccination and animals wellness clinic that's open to the public.
HSH provides spay/neuter service for the Rio Grande Valley. Additional vaccinations are available.
