Feeding Newborn Kitten

Spring marks the beginning of “kitten season,” a time of year when thousands of homeless kittens flood animal shelters across the country. Here in the RGV, kitten season starts as early as March, and runs all through summer and fall. During this time, our needs at the shelter increase exponentially as we care for thousands of lost and homeless neonates.

Our biggest needs during kitten season are foster families. Foster families open their homes to young kittens, and care for them through the neonate period until they're strong and healthy enough to be adopted into forever homes.

At HSH, we make a promise to provide our foster parents with all of the supplies and resources they'll need to care for their fosters, as a part of our journey to make helping a shelter pet accessible and affordable to all... which brings us to our next big need... supplies!

Many of the supplies we use to care for kittens, like bottles and miracle nipples, are one-time-use. This means that we go through thousands of them every kitten season. Others, like heating pads and travel crates, are easily misplaced in foster homes and don't make it back to the shelter.

Please consider opening your home to a foster pet this kitten season, or joining us at a drive-thru kitten shower at the shelter on Sunday, March 7th from 9 AM to Noon. Can’t make it to the event? Monetary donations can be made at here and supplies can be purchased on our Amazon Wishlist to be sent directly to the shelter.

Thank you for your support!
