Surrendering A Pet
We understand that a wide variety of reasons might lead someone to consider surrendering a pet. We hold no judgement toward those facing this choice, however our highest priorities are to keep pets with their families whenever possible, and to keep animals out of the shelter. For this reason we've collected a number of resources to help you keep your pet at home. Most are focused on meeting needs - financial, medical, and behavioral. The rest are focused on rehoming your pet yourself, keeping them out of the shelter while you find them a new home. Click through to view the resources, and feel free to contact the shelter with any questions.
HSH accepts owner surrenders by appointment only. In order to be scheduled to surrender a pet, you must complete the application in the link below. Submission of the form is required to be scheduled for a surrender appointment, but submission of this form does not guarantee a scheduled appointment. Following submission of this form, a member of our team will reach out to you. Our team is working diligently to meet your needs, but it could take up to 48 hours before someone reaches out. We will attempt to reach you twice before your application is removed from our database. If you are in need of immediate care, please contact your local animal control agency.
Please Note: HSH cannot guarantee the outcome for any surrendered pet. HSH cannot provide updates or holds for surrendered pets. Surrendered pets do not have a hold period and are considered to be in HSH custody upon intake. Owners interested in reclaiming a surrendered pet must follow the standard adoption process.
