Thank you for your interest in volunteering at HSH! Volunteers will assist staff with various tasks related to animal care, including feeding, cleaning kennels or cages, doing laundry and dishes, administering medications, and preparing for procedures. Tasks will vary day to day based on shelter needs. This is a great way to learn the ins and outs of shelter practice!
How our volunteers help:
Community Outreach Team
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our process for volunteering has changed. Interested volunteers should sign-up for a spot through the link below. When you arrive at the shelter, you'll be asked to complete an application and sign a waiver before beginning your shift. Please remember to bring a photo ID with you. Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, such as tennis shoes. Clothing must completely cover the legs and shoulders.
As a non-profit, we rely heavily on our volunteer team. This means that when you sign up for a spot, we are relying on you to show up on time and work through the entirety of your shift. Because volunteer slots are limited, we kindly ask that you only sign up for spots that you are certain you can attend. If you can no longer work the shift you signed up for, please cancel your reservation so that another volunteer has the option to sign up. If you would like to volunteer but need to arrive late, leave early, or volunteer during a different time slot that is not listed on the link below, please call us at (956) 425-7297 to see if special arrangements can be made.
At this time, we are only able to accept volunteers aged 16 or older. If your child is in need of volunteer hours, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be notified of volunteer from home activities.
